4 Home Maintenance Tips to Prepare You for the Hot Weather

The warm weather is here, and it’s time to make a quick checklist of home maintenance chores to get your home in shape. There are many simple things that you should do, such as checking that your air conditioning system is working and that your gutters aren’t leaking. However, here are some things that you may not have thought of.

Check Your Doors and Windows

Make sure that no cracks developed over winter near your door or windows. If there is too much space between your door or windows and the wall, bugs and insects can easily get in. Use caulk to close it up.

Prevent Fruit Flies and Bug Infestation

Take measures right away to prevent your home from becoming a bug haven. Remove any firewood that’s starting to rot. Don’t leave any rotting or overripe fruit in the kitchen, and always keep your sink and dishes clean. Keep your wood walls painted or sealed to keep carpenter ants away.

Repair Your Concrete

Concrete can get cracked from the salt and plow machines. Inspect your concrete driveways and walkways. Remove any weeds and fill and seal the cracks with a concrete filler or silicone caulk.

Check Your Hoses

Make sure your outdoor hoses and sprinklers didn’t suffer any freeze damage. Look for cracks in the hose. See if the water pressure is low enough that you can block the flow with your finger; if you can, a pipe was probably damaged somewhere.
