How To Do Your Basement Project Right

As part of your basement finishing project, we like to recommend some add-ons to your project that you may have not considered yet. Here is a quick list of some of the more common recommendations that we make to homeowners:

  • If your home has experienced flooding the basement, or if you have any sort of mold or water damage, you may want to think about adding a sump pump. Having a sump pump installed in your basement can help protect your newly finished basement from future damage.

  • Basements are very different areas to heat and cool as compared to the rest of your home. You may want to consider installing zones in your home. This allows you to keep your basement at a more comfortable temperature year-round without wasting energy.

  • Basements can be more likely to have radon than in the rest of your home. Make sure that you test for radon, complete any radon abatement projects and then install radon detectors to keep you and your family safe.

  • With a basement finishing project, you are probably going to add more lighting, appliances, new electronics, etc. It is important to have your electrical box checked out. (Especially if you have an older home). You may want to have your box upgraded to ensure that all of your electrical needs are being met.
