Why You May Want To Install A Sump Pump

Although sump pumps aren’t as common in Colorado as they are in other regions, at Ascent Builders and Basement Partners we occasionally run across homes that should consider installing a sump pump as part of their basement finish. Here are a few signs that you should consider installing one:

Previous Flooding: If you have experienced previous flooding in your home, especially in the past several years, you should consider installing a sump pump during the basement finish process. It can be frustrating to invest in finishing your basement only to have a soggy mess just a few months or even a few years later. Installing and maintaining a sump pump can help you avoid this problem, as well as save you a lot of time and money in the future.
Dampness: If you have always noticed that your basement seems damp compared to the rest of the house, this is also a sign that you should have us check out the water table level around your house. Even in a dry climate like Colorado, certain homes will require a sump pump simply because they are not on elevated ground. If you are unsure, just ask!
Musty or Mildewy Smell: If you have noticed a musty smell in your basement, this could be another sign that a sump pump could be helpful in your basement. Again, we are happy to check for signs that a sump pump would be helpful.
